Default grounding questions**new question

whats the difference between a ground wire....like lets say your average car audio ground wires. and a ground strap? like thehead to firewall on the driver side for example. i will be adding a few grounds so i want to make sure its done correctly the first time. and what size ground wire do you suggest? i was going to go with a 4 gauge.

no big difference between the ground strap/audio wire,4 ga or bigger will work fine.

couple more connection questions. most of my connections are slightly rusted. i will sand them clean. what do you put on the metal to stop rust from coming back but without hindering connection issues? also would it be a bad idea to use dielectric gel on power side of some wires? my goal is to make my connections so ideal that i will have minimal loss from the alt. to the battery. i want to hook up a cheap ish electric fan, tarus fan if i can get ahold of it and still run the stock alt 75amp.

As far as the connections you can knock the corrosion/rust off with a bench grinder with a wire wheel on it, then you will just have to keep an eye on it for more rust/corrosion. if you coat it it will not ground well. That or get copper connectors. Di-electric gel will not really help anything either, your weakest link will always be your wiring and connections, that is where the drop usually is.

ok....so there is no anti rust that i can put on there that will stop rust and still conduct? i guess worse comes to worse i'll buy new connections and do it that way. what is the stock gauge on the starter ground and positive, battery ground and positive and alt ground and positive.

anyone know and what gauge i should upgrade to? its all easy access now with everything out of the way

I think it's 4 gauge...At least the main cables.

They make a terminal spary that you can use to prevent corrosion also...btw. Any parts house will have it.
