Default Flywheel

The diameter of a stock flywheel is 10.5 in. correct? I got my clutch out today and when Imeasured the flywheel (not including teeth) itis 12 in. Is this a normal aftermarket flywheelsize to put on a relitivley stock 89 fox? The guy who put this in (previouse owner) probably did not know what he was doing. I could literaly take the drive shaft bolts out by hand. I found no trace of lube used, which is probably the reason the clutch failed. The only real modifiction done to this car is 3.73gears and exhaust.

Would it be beter to buy a stock 10.5 flywheel and stock clutch, or buy an aftermarket clutch that fits the existing flywheel? This is a daily driver.

That is probably a stock flywheel, the clutch disk is 10.5 across IIRC.

What do you mean by no lube causing the clutch to go bad?

I think he's talking about thechassis grease your supposed to smear on the face of the flywheel and the pressure plate before you put the clutch disc in. [:@]

When i took out the trans the shaft that slides on the throwout bearing was bone dry. I was told this could be the reason my clutch blew, but im a begginer mustang owner, so i could be deadwrong. Thanks for the help about the clutch.

I got ya, but it wouldn't cause the demise of your clutch, just maybe your bearing retainer and a little petal feel.

The aftermarket clutches can measure 10.4-10.5 inches of diameter.
