Timing gun question

10 is the factory setting, 14 is a good point to set the timing at.

I can go to 16* without pinging and it runs fine just depends on what you got. but i run mine at 14* just to stay safe

you understand that they mean bring it to 14*, not advance it 14* more right

Ok, didn;t know that. I know on my balancer I see a 0 - 20. BTDC I put it on 10 degrees right now. So I am abole to put it on 14? Because I was getting some wierd loud noise when I out it on 14.

just to clarify. you unplugged the little spout connector, started the car, had it at 10* BTDC, then advanced it 4 more * to bring it to 14* and it started to shake/make a noise.[>:] thats kinda odd actually. was this at an idle that it did that or was this on the "test drive" after? because by the way it sounds, it sounds like its pinging/detonating. but i cant see why it would be doin this at an idle like the way it seems you're describing

I heard the sound, after I took out the plug started it up, set it to 14 degrees, and shut it down, put plug back in, test drove it. And when I punched it I heard the pinging sound at high RPM's.

yea that noise you are hearing is detonation. not good at all. i would either put premium in it or back it down to 10*
