260... thats EASY... im working on that (260-270rwhp) right now...
gt40 heada-300
gt40 intake-200 (... or grab an explorer motor from a junkyard for what... 500-600 bucks? then you have an extra block....)
cam-250(comp cams are 255 atleast... crower and **** is 350, ford and tfs are like 175)
springs locks retainers ~250 (get 7*locks/retainers, and single springs, not dual(dual require machine work to the heads, i just went through this, and the 7*locks/retainers are lighter))
pushrods-30 bucks
old lifters are ok to use
RRs would be nice-300(250 of them, then screw in studs etc)
tb(optional, im keeping stock) is like 200( with egr spacer)
that right there is 1330(and could be done for 1k even if you spent your money right)
dunno what labor would be... sorry(call it 2k total w. labor???)
body work/paint set aside 2k for
what do you want done w. the trans? and handling or drag suspension?

RE: What to do with 6 grand?
Actually, my tranny is fine now. I just want something that I don't have to worry about breaking. I guess I'd wait till mine breaks to replace it. No drag suspension...just something low and tight for the street. I may go the budget build route, like your talking about, rather than getting AFRs or something. Then I could do brakes and everything too. Good idea.

RE: What to do with 6 grand?
well if you get afr's or similar, and ****... and dont make over 300rwhp... ill feel bad for you...i mean... is anohter 30 hp worth another grand or so? i vote no
btw... w. the heads ported, ive seen that set up i said(cam is the xe270 by the way) hit 310whp
as for suspension, you dont need alot, just springs/shocks/struts really... ill suggest strange10ways for the shocks/struts, i have them, and love them
as for the trans, pick up another t5 for like 200 bucks and keep it in the shed/basement...

RE: What to do with 6 grand?
Turbo too expensive? you will make more power, easier with a turbo for same money.
Turbo kit - $3k
Fuel system - $600
MM lower control arms - $250
MM subframes - $125
King Cobra Clutch - $150
Total - $4,125 ....... this will give 125+ more rwhp than a H/C/I on bone stock engine
Leaving you $1,900 for install and tune
with maybe enough left over to filler up couple of times.
