Default 347 stroker package

I just went to the shop that built my stroker motor and here's the breakout of what I got.

4340 Steel Crank 3.4 STR
H beam rods 5.4L
Forged pistons
Molly rings
early block, studded & girdled
Scorpion 1.6 RR's

I'm upping the timing to 25 degrees and see what that gets me when I get it tuned again.

Not sure. I'll find out.

What would the benefit be of one over the other?

The oil ring does not intersect with the 1.175" tall piston/5.315" rod.

You still get a solid piston and 347 cubes.

I went with the 5.315 rod too...it yields a better rod ratio and less possible piston rock in the bore..and no wrist pin intersecting the oil control ring

5.315"/3.4" = 1.56
5.400"/3.4" = 1.59

The longer rod gives you a "better" rod ratio.

Of course, that is extremely negligable.

We are not trying to squeeze out the last amount of HP we can, so it means nothing
