Default Build Advice

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I need some advice on what direction to go with my stang. First of all, it has a ranger engine in it. It's a 5.0 tho. I'm pretty sure that's not a positive thing, but if its workable soo be it. If the block from the ranger is gonna be total crap, what direction should i take, on the block front? I'd like an affordable option that wont break the bank but it wont break itself either. I've heard the 4.6 modular cobra engines are great starting points, but how would i come across one of the those and how much would it run me? I've tried google, but didnt find much. As far as other parts i was thinking about an edelbrock rpm package or one of trickflows perfomace package. Again are these good paths to take. I'd like a reliable car I can have fun with when im driving to work in the morning, but I want to make it to work. Im looking for 350-400 horsepower. I dont know if i can get quite that much just out of a block and a performer package, soo any comment would really help out.I really love cars but i just dont know a ton about them, and I'm trying to learn, soo help me out if ya can. Also i was looking into tuning and stuff, like the diablo sport tuners. I have a laptop, if that helps. Thanks for any help.

Someone told me the thing about the ranger engine, soo its probably not then. My apoligies. It's definetly a V-8, and i'd been told it wasa 5.0. All i know is its not the original engine. It's a 1994 Mustang GT.

Id try and find out exactly what engine it is first and go from there, after that i would stick with the 5.0 since its cheaper to build and can easily get you 350whp, you could get close to that with an intercooled supercharger or past it with a turbo alone.

How do i do that? I could probably track the vin number couldn't I? Any websites to recomend? I dont really want to go forced induction? Do i really have to, to get that much horsepower?

Well if you said the engine is not the original engine than the vin on the car wont be any help, youd have to find the casting numbers on the engine, im not sure where exactly there at but someone on here does or you can buy a book on it at borders or another bookstore. If you dont want to go forced induction than look to build a 347 stroker to get some power but it will be a lot harder to get to 400whp.
