Default CAI quick question

Is it worth the money to buy a CAI kit? Or just drop in a K&N filter with the stock intake?

Whatcha think??

cold air intake is nothing more than a cosmetic mod, they look nice and help to clean up the engine bay. Don't expect any performance out of it.

on a stock motor, its worthless.

With a HCI, Bigger TB , Bigger MAF Housing, the Fendermount BBK gives you a very good bump in torque and hp, from idle to red line.

Good point, most people install them on stock engines and expect more power. I suggest buying an eBay one, same as the name brand stuff without the stupid price. I'm on my second eBay intake so far...

Barely shy of 320 to the wheels and my A/F and inlet dyno comparisons show that even with a 75 shot (355 to the wheels) the stock box and K%N filter outperformed the fenderwell inlet CAI and unlike the CAI did not screw with my A/F reading.

idk exactly how fast the 05 gt 1/4 time, but i watched the show time slip on the speed channel and a stock 05 gt with just a cold air intake ran a 13.01. i thought that was damn impressive.

SN and newer cars behave differently to the swap than the traditional fox setups...fox boxes are essentaially CAI's. They pull air from the fenderwell like a CAI and though it may surprise several people the ribbed portion of the inlet tube does not create flow issues...flow numbers from the stock box/inlet will outflow the needs of any 302 N/A setup untill IMO the 400 HP zone is approaced. Then the ONLY effective choice IMO is the anderson power pipe...it's 4" ID and form is definately going to supply additional air if needed.

Depends on what you're looking for, a Fenderwell CAI or a big *** filter in the engine bay when you ask about CAI?

HP gains (big as filter in the engine bay)-- stay with the stock system and a good filter.

Appearance gains (fenderwell) ...100% nicer looking than the stock set-up.

Great, my ride is pretty stock so I'm not looking to change it that much, the only thing is I removed the air silencer a few years back.

I think the message here is leave the stock box and drop in a K&N! and save a few bucks and keep the my ride stock looking. Thanks.......

Also, most dont have the A9P or A9L ECM, they love fendermount CAI's and or more stable than the other ECM's Ive ran into, as far as mods.
