Default body work

the only rot on my whole car is on the hatch...i dug out my old one and noticed one rust spot on the inside of it where it closes its not comin off easy by hand but it is comin off so i figure with a sander i can get it down to bare metal...but...if it is worse than appears is it cheaper to buy a new hatch or fix that one area? and also the guy i bought it from does body work and he said to remove all the dents in the car and re-spray my color black wit racing stripes about 1500....sound like a good deal?

replace the hatch if you can afford it. If you can see rust, it will be 10X worse where you can't see....trust me, I know cus I fixed mine.

The price sounds good for paint....just depends on how nice you want it.

I haven't heard a lot of good about fiberglass hatches besides they weigh less....If I had it to over again and the cash to spend, I would buy a steel hatch fo sho!

i will most likely have my hatch up for sale from my GT once the swap is finished. there is zero rust on it as far as i can tell...i will inspect it thoroughly beforehand though, just to make sure...

but, where are you located..i dont think its worth it to ship it..

If you have the cash, spring for a replacement. The rust can be fixed, but it generally is time consuming & time is money. The normal problem areas are pinch welds and seam sealer seams. Both tend to collect water. And both are typically at areas that are hard to work from a body standpoint.
