how good are those heads? havn't heard anything about 289 heads on a 302. but you've got what sounds like a decent hci, a good suspension set up, sticky tires and some nitrous so i would say high 11's are a possibility.

'66 289 heads will upgraded to their fullest. their aren't the best kind, HIPO's are the best and then '65 is the next best....so basically i got the 3rd best stock....but they are all about the same when they are upgraded. should bump my compression to 10:1 or 10.5:1....right in that area, so high compression + nitrous, i was told that equals some good numbers. i was hoping for at least 11.99's or better if i could.

do your 289 heads have heart shape cumbustion chambers?? if not and they are standard igloo type simialr to e7 shape then lower your ranking to 4th and throw 69oe and or d0ee heads in there as being better, anyway cam is a little on the small side, I'd make sure the 289 heads are ported to the max and have at least a .500 lift cam in it...motor alone you won't hit 11's but with a 100 shot you should be close

they are the heart shaped chamber

they will be ported as much as possible, 1.94 1.6 valves, upgraded springs and some bowl work. so you think i'd be mid 12's on motor alone?

mjr...is it true high compression with nitrous makes better numbers than lower compression with nitrous?

those heads flow the same as hipo head ports and vqlve sizes are identical

imho ditch the heads they are restrictive and upgrade the cam

it'll make more power with higher compression than lower but it'll also pop gaskets easier but you should be fine I had 11 to 1 on a 100 shot, key is to make as much N/A so you don't have to rely on the Nos as much, zachwo4stang ran 13.o's 12.90's N/a and with a 100 shot I believe he went 11.90's.....as long as you can dip into the 12's with the motor 11.90's on a 100 shot should be easy, I ran 12.20's on an old set up N/A and with a 100 shot it ran 11.34........you should be able to hit a 12.90 with that set up but I'd change cam, my 66 with LW flat tops and A .500/500 lift cam , rpm air gap and ported
C9OE heads 1.94/1.50 and 650 carb and lt headers and 3.50 gears does 13.3 on street tires @104, so with slicks 13.0's are no prob
