Pushrod length when using guideplates? Stock or ?
I hope this isn't too stupid of a question....
I'm installing 289 heads on a roller 85 block. I'm using comp cams roller rockers 1.6, screw in studs and guide plates. I've tried searching around some and it seems like I might need longer pushrods. I don't know how much longer or how to find out.
I'm sure some of you have been in this situation and hopefully might know an exact length. I need to know asap because I wanted to finish ordering parts today.
Thanks!

you might get an answer for somebody with a length in a similiar setup but always the best thing is to get a pushrod length checker and find the correct length yourself and go from there.
there only like 10 bucks from summit, jegs and what not....good little tool to have in the toolbox...

yeah you really need to check the pushrod length to decide the size you need, it's not a safe bet to have someone tell you what size to get. Here are two links to help you out.

you need to purchase an adjustable push rod length checker and furthermore when installing 60's heads on a latemodel block I believe steam holes need to be drilled into the block, you also need apart from and adjustable checker to solid roller lifters or stock ones converted to check for length and travel
I agree with everyone on the pushrod length checker thing, thanks. =] I'm going to try a few people I know tomorrow and see if I can borrow one.
I put one of the heads on the engine this afternoon and installed one of my old pushrods with the new rocker arm. There is a bit of difference there.

Steamholes? For? I'm usually pretty familliar with these critters but I think ya lost me there.

• INSTALLATION: Before final installation of the cylinder heads, several things need to be checked to assure proper engine operation:
1. Check the upper deck to see if you have an early or late model block (not needed with 351-W): a) Late model 289-302 blocks have the water
passages located next to the head bolt location on the deck of the block (This block will not require drilling). b) Early 289-302 blocks will
have the water passages located directly over the cylinder upper deck area and will require drilling 1/8" steam holes as seen in Figure 2.

why are you using the 65 heads? they dont flow any more than E7's plus they dont have hardened valve seats, granted they have quench chambers but you be better of buying a set of gt40s
