Default Transmission leak, what do you think?

87 - 5.0 - 5spd.

Well, I have an oil leak and a tranny leak. The oil leak is from the oil plug, which I thought I had fixed but it seems that I need an oversized plug. Stupid plug doesnt tighten down, just keeps spinning. Anyway, this question is about the tranny.

Like I said, its a 5spd. The leak seems to be coming from the front of the transmission right behind the Oil Pan. Im not exactly sure where its leaking from, what do you think it could be. Also, how much should I be expecting to pay just to get this leak fixed based on what you think it is?

oh, and there seems to be nothing wrong with the tranny other than its starting to get sticky now that its getting colder. i gotta drain whats left of the tranny fluid and change it. odd thing is though, its been leaking for 2 months and i never seem to run out of fluid to leak...

What color is the oil that's leaking in front of the transmission? Most transmission leaks I've seen are at the output where the driveshaft is at. The location of your leak seems like a rear main seal leak. So best bet is to check the color and go from there. Red = trans. fluid, Brown/Black = engine oil

well on the ground its showing up as a brownish color but not the same as the oil plug leak. old tranny fluid with dirt in it wouldnt really be red though would it?

I can't say for sure, but when I drained the trans fluid out of my t5 (from 89) with 90k miles, it was still red. And I'm positive it's original fluid, because my uncle owned it before me and all he did was oil changes. Still had the original plugs and wires for crying out loud!

Also, I'm pretty sure the trans fluid smells different than engine oil.

Good luck!
