disapointing HCI build.

Get those 1 5/8 shorty headers off that thing and it will pick up another 50 hp. The exhaust ports in those Pro-Comp heads are huge. The poor motor can't breath. It's like the air is trying to run the 100 yard dash through submarine doors.

My exhaust ports are big on my 190cc heads. I haven't had a problem out of them at all as of yet and probably won't. I have heard so many horror stories from internet forums about Pro Comp heads, I was scared about my heads. I had already bought them by the time I read all the bad news about them. But I must of gotten extremely lucky because I didn't have all of the casting flaws that I have seen in person on 3 sets of BBC heads and pictures on the forums. I just ran mine as casted, kinda wished I would of ported them now, but I wanted to see what I could get out of them like they was out of the box. I haven't weighed my car yet, but with my E.T. at the track, I figure I'm around 375rwhp. Like everyone else, I'm looking for more. I will bump my timing up a few more degrees before I take it to the track next time. It's set so low it's almost sickening.

No doubt it has some serious flaws. The engine cant scavange the exhaust if it can't get past those big ledges at the header flange. The engine has to exhale as well as inhale. You can't fill a cylinder with a good charge if you still half the dead charge backed up in the cylinder. Things like that can cost you some big hp.

I don't like the heads, wouldn't have a set of them. But even AFR heads won't breath if you block the exhaust ports. Even cheap parts can make good power somtimes. It's easy to speculate by blaming the crappist thing on the build. I see an obvious problem that I would have addressed first in that swap before I came to the conclusion that the heads caused the big problem with that car. It's like seeing a plug wire off and still blame the heads
