Question 93 mustang won't redline

My 93 will not redline in any gear or neutral. The air silencer has been removed. Could it be the the motor is running out of fuel? The car doesn't miss it just won't go over about 5200 rpm. Any idea why?

DO NOT REV YOUR CAR TO REDLINE WITHOUT LOAD.

Could your car have a rev limiter installed?

i haven't added anything to the car. It may have 1.7 rockers or a mild cam. I really didn't notice it until it was pointed out. It has a very slight lump and only when it is warm. It still has stock heads and pistons. The car only has 106k on it. The front seal was leaking when I bought. I went to change the timing chain and noticed it already had one put on it. Also it has had head gaskets. I guess the chain broke is why it has new gaskets. It runs real good. No oil use between changes. The only other mod is the gears. Unless the 5-speeds came with a 3.27 gear. They are that or 3.55. It still has factory rusted out exhaust. Maybe no back pressure?

Once it gets up about 4700 or so i can feel it running out of power. Once it hits yellow it stops climbing. I can top the car out at 130 or 135 if the speedo is right. I have never done it but, a 115 or so in 4th comes quick and it stops climbing when it hits around 5200. As far as the rev limiter, I don't think so. Like I said its like it is running out of fuel and won't climb no more. It doesn't do the rpm hesitate like a new truck. It just feels smooth.

ANYWAY, SOUNDS LIKE a stock cammed mustang and mosts power falls off close to 5500..your stock tac may not be 100 percent accurate...and if cam and springs are not matched good luck at reaching the motors full rpm potential...but start with basics and run a koer test to make sure no codes are present if you feel there is a problem.

thanks, i will look into that before i put my blower on. It just seemed to me that the one my dad had just like it would hit higher rpms. That has been about 12 been years ago though.

if you didnt match springs to the cam as stated above. you could be experiencing a slight bit of valve float. again like said above, you would not be able to reach your motors full potential.

also did you set yoru rockers properly? do you have lots of rocker noise?

Timing way off or maybe the fuel filter needs replaced. You need to do alot of stuff before you put your blower on.

As far as change the cam, I havn't done. Whoever had the car before me may have. When I put the cobra intake on I am going to check to see if it has 1.7 rockers. I think the egr (or something) is going bad is the reason for the idle. Something pops after start up and then it will run fine. The colder it is outside the longer it takes to pop open. I have heard a car with 1.7 rockers and I don't believe it has them. All I have done is put a ford racing stock oil pump on when I changed the front seal. I didn't put a new timing chain on when I seen it had a new one.

The upgrades you are talking about before the blower, if you will, list them please. I replaced the u-joints. I am going to put in the holley forced induction fuel pump. The fuel filter will get done, thanks. I was thinking a msd ignition with boost control. I will only be running 4lbs with a 1.5 kb until I get it tuned for an 8lb with meth. I am keeping the stock heads on. If I ever blow a gasket, I may port them (or put on a iron aftermarket) but until then they are staying as is.

the timing is not advanced at all. I can run 87 octane. I don't much because the the check engine comes on after a few tanks. It may be the place where I get my gas or a 02 sensor going bad. My truck does this too from time to time.

Actually now that think about it the gas probably is the reason for the light. Gas is seasonal. If a station is using winter grade fuel in the summer, it can cause problems. My dads v-6 97 had a lot done to it before finding out he was running winter grade fuel in the summer. When the stations ran out of it, the car ran fine.
