Default 3:73s?

would 3:73s be good with a turbo? Ive heard around that going with a lower ratio (or is it higher?) like 3:55s or so is better than going with 4:10s cuz it allows the turbo to spool up under load better?

my plan for this car as of now is a 347 with a single hair dryer on it or a blower pushing at least 10lbs...

3:55's would be considered "higher" then 3:73's (the lower the gear the more the acceleration). As for which gear would be better for which application I'm clueless as I am still learning myself. But with that set up don't expect your t5 will hold up (assuming that you have a stock t5, my apologies if you don't). So speaking of which...and speaking of gears...don't forget that each tranny has different gears as well. With the stock t5 having a 3:35 1st, it will be much lower with 3:73's compared to say a tko600 with a 2:73 1st. Just something to remember I guess. (and anyone feel free to correct my numbers if they're wrong, just going by memory). good luck and hope it helps!

thanks yeah, I can never remember the higher/lower things with gears...

and yeah, the car is mostly stock as of now, as for the trans it is 100% stock, minus the clutch n stuff in that area... I'm not jumping on anything yet, still in school/broke and the car runs fine, wanna see how many miles I can get outta the stocker before it goes or I get bored... most of my current/immediate future mods (summer) are geared towards the chassis/suspension...

atta boy! Imo, that's the best thing to do. Start with the rear going up. That way when you can eventually afford the power, you're car will be able to afford the abuse!

yup, that was my plan from the start... no point having 400-500 horsies if I cant put it to the ground...

and 400-500 horsies for a DD where I live insnt the greatest Idea... in crappy weather, even the stock 5.0s power can suprise me, especially on overpasses in this near freezing weather...

I hear ya there bro, we have about 6 months snow, 2 months crappy mud spring weather 3 months sun then 1 month chilly fall. But, ya just learn to make the most of it and burn off the tires while ya get the chance!. haha 5 rear sets last year! =)

3.27 is considered an all around good gear for a turbo fox. the reason for a higher gear with a turbo is that it puts more load on the motor then a lower gear such as 3.73 or 4.10 the more load you put on a turbo motor, the faster it spools, the sooner the motor makes power.

If you have the 3.73's already in, try them! ...worst case your switching to a "higher" gear!
