Default 94' 5.0 Questions: What's the big deal?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and recently came into a 94 Gt with the 5.0 302. I guess I'm a little confused. I had an 88' GT years ago but a lot changed when they switched to the new body style and retained the 302. Can anyone tell me what some of the major differences are? Mods are basic from the previous owner:

Full exhaust w/dumps
CAI BBK
Smog is completedly removed
3:73 gears (the speedo is way off and the odometer/speedometer isn't working, any ideas that just out in front?)
I'm not sure but it looks like some aftermarket pulleys

The guys said it had a mild cam in it but that's total BS. The intake and heads are stock too.

The throttle seems laggy so the first thing I looked for was a programmer. I guess that for 94-95 there is no programmer available? All I can do is reprogram the ECU? I've heard that I can install a computer from a 93 or below and drastically improve performance and throttle response. True? Is there something better that can be done? I have a new upper/lower intake and larger throttle body in mind for the near future. Can you guys recommend any other basic and fairly typical boltons?

Thanks for listening to all the questions. I shattered my ankle while riding my dirt bike and just had surgery a few days ago, so I figured this would be a perfect time to do as much research as I can in preparation for the new project.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

easy bolt ons-

electric fan(i think you still have mechanical fan like our foxes)
control arms
subframes
springs
short throw shifter
intake

it all depends on how much you want to spend and what your lookin to get our of it. IMO since you have gears you should really get into your suspension and make those gears work for you.

as for your throttle,

-verify tps @ .6 to 1.01v key on engine off
-unhook your battery for about an hour
-hook it back up turn on your car and let it find its idle.
-make sure its idling between 750 to 900rpms, otherwise set base idle w/ IAC unplugged
-you can bump your timing here too if you want. w/ spout out

once youve got all your basics reset go out and give it a few WOT passes. should feel entirely different.

Thanks FivePoint. Shorth throw shifter is in and I just received a set of Eibach springs that I'm going to install shortly. I should have mentioned that it used to be an automatic, then it was swapped to a 5 speed. I haven't even been able to climb underneath to see what kind of tranny we have in there. But it's probably just a stocker. Anything I need to look out for when checking to see if they did the swap properly? Maybe my speedo problem is an error from the swap?

could be speedo cable unhooked or not put in correctly. maybe no speedo gear at all. hard to say. just change out all what you got.

pull off the clutch fork cover, see what kind of clutch you have, what kind of clutch cable/quadrant/firewall adj. probably all stock if they are cheap or maybe they bought a kit and its all nice and new. who knows?

porbably check to make sure all your mounts are good(tranny/engine) good investment if yours are bad.

if you already have springs might as well accompany them with some quality shocks/struts. easy easy to put in since you'll be doing your springs anways and makes a world of difference.

what are your goals? what kind of car are you looking for? what type of eibachs are they?

I can see a few, it seems like three, wirings hanging down around the transmission. They look like they should plug into something but it appears there's nothing for them. Is this typical after a automatic has been switched over to a manual?

E-fans are factory. If you want a new intake manifold and throttle body, you could add some FRPP 1.7 RR at the same time if you are on the stock cam. A nice dyno tune will be icing on the cake.
