Default pulley clearance

How close is too close between the Waterpump pulley and the Crank pulley? When I bought my stang it had a v-belt setup on it so I decided to swap to serpentine belt with junkyard parts. I had to buy a remanned waterpump because the old one had too long of a neck on it. Now that I am starting to put things back together I am just "mocking it up" on the engine. Anyways long story short, the crank and waterpump pulley have about 1/4" or less of clearance between them. The only accessories I am running are Alt. PS and waterpump. Should I just switch to electric waterpump and keep everything else the same? I got pics if anyone needs to see them. Thanks in advance for the help.

Before I had my electric water pump I ran the same set up, and it was the same story, and about a 1/4" gap. It's alright as long as it stays that way. Take note that a new belt will stretch and if it's a **** hair too long it will stretch and touch, took me two belts to get it right... Thankfully Napa took it back even though I had ran it for an afternoon.

so I should be alright as long as the belt is the right length? Or should I just buy some underdrive pulleys and not worry about the clearance issue.

Yup, should be fine. Worked well for me all last summer before I had my e. waterpump. Can't see why it wouldn't for you.

Glad to be of assistance adding an electric waterpump and fan really helps cleans up the engine bay IMO, especially with our crowded 302's. I know I was real satisfied with the outcome.
