Default considering a 5.0

Howdy. I have been thinking about buying a 5.0 gt that me and my dad can work on for a street/strip car. I don't really know anything about 5.0s, so what is the best power for the money on these cars? My goals are to be in the 9-10 sec range. Would this be possable without spending a ton of money or should I look for a different platform? Any info would be very helpful, thanks

I think 5.0's are one of the cheapest go fast cars you can get. Although with any car the 9-10 second range is always gonna cost you a fair amount.

Is there any reason you're shooting for 10's? Or is it just to say you can? Bragging rights aren't a bad reason IMO but I just think A LOT of people grossly underestimate how fast that is.

They are good because you can make them fast cheap. A stock motor can handle a lot of nitrous. I don't think you will hit 9's though on a stock motor. I am not sure what exactly that equals out to in the 1/8. I assume you meant the 1/4 mile. I have never raced mine but, it is probably running 9's with the stock motor in the 1/8.

I don't think you can hit 9's with anything cheap. I'd keep the 08 GT that's in you sig.

You could try a Trans-Am with a LS-1 motor. Throw you a carb on it and run the system off of a laptop. With NOS you could make some really good numbers.

why in the world would you buy an LS1 t/a and carb it?

i assume you are trying to get at taking an LS1 motor, drop it into the mustang. get a stand alone system to operate the motor in the mustang and then put some NITROUS into it.

not only would that be super expensive but hardly worth the effort unless you got one hell of a deal on the motor and car and most of the parts for it. 7k on motor, 3k+ on supporting software/stand alone unit, 3k on supporting suspension/custom k member/custom cross member

thats a guess on new stuff and im probably slightly off.

to get in the 9-10 sec. range your going to have to mortgage the house!

...5.0's pretty simple to work on...do some reseach and make a plan!

There is no car that runs 9's/10's for cheap. A 5.0 is probably as close as you can get to one though.

If you take every dollar you get from selling your '08 GT and carefully spend it on a 5.0 you might be able to pull it off.

Or buy a thousand cc sport bike and be done with it

I realize it won't be cheap to build, but my main concern is I dont want to spend money on setup A when setup B could have reached the same goal for cheaper. I’m just not sure if stroker F/I and/or nitrous would better. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 9 sec car I just want something that will perform well at the track and then drive it home. but im keep researching to see what I should do.

Hmmmmm........

But anyway, yeah, build a nice stroker and boost or spray it and you'll end up with a fast car.
