Default Trans install problem

I'm having some trouble getting the transmission to line up flush with the bellhousing when installing it. The first try the problem was the throwout bearing got knocked out of place. After pulling the tranny out, on my back in garage, what fun, we fixed the throwout bearing and tried again. This time it is still the same 1/8th inch away from the bellhousing but after looking in through the clutch fork opening the throwout bearing seems to be in the right place. The splines are lined up and should be engaging the clutch, at least, and probably the pilot bearing.

What are your thoughts here as to whats not lining up? Should I dissassemble the clutch/bellhousing, loosen the pressure plate bolts, and assemble everything without the bellhousing on it, and then tighten the pressure plate bolts to make sure it lines up? That would only be good if the pressure plate needed a slight adjustment, but I don't know if that will fix the problem.

Your two cents please.

^^^ Agreed. Have someone step on the clutch while you shove the tranny the rest of the way in. Should be a bit more that 1/8 of an inch though to give you problems. Give it a good wiggle on the tailshaft as you shove the tranny in.

So I'm assuming stepping on the clutch will make sure the throw out bearing/fork are lined up properly by moving them back and forth on the input shaft. There is an eight of an inch maybe even less between the bellhousing and trans. Rotating the trans hasn't helped.

Thanks alot for the help, I'll definitely try that.
