I have a 99 explorer motor with the gt40p heads with the e303 cam in a 85 gt. I just pulled the intake off and put on carb set up but for as the heads I just changed the springs, have the stock rockers on them with that set up my valves clear the pistons. Not sure with the 1.7 rockers. Not sure how much faster the 85 is than my 90 haven't put them side to side but the 85 pulls alot harder than the 90 gt with the stock motor with just cat back. I would say a 96 explorer motor with the gt-40 heads and intake which is gt-40 like cobra with the right cam and exhuast would be worth the swap. Haven't done the fuel injection set up so not sure how hard that would be.

I like it and the cam sounds good, I haven't seen any other explorer motors set up like this in person. So I don't have any other cams to compare with the e303 cam in this set up but I like what I have. Just a little louder on the exhuast than I wanted, I got 2.5 Mac wanted it to sound closer to stock but to big of pipe for that I guess, sounds mean though. I got the Crane Cam spring, lock and retainer kit from summit part # 44308-1. You have to change the springs on the explorer heads even if your going with a stock mustang cam.

I used the d-strib that came with my 85 it was carb and roller set up to start with. If you get one from a 79-84 mustang it should work but you have to CHANGE the gear on it to a gear made for a roller cam if not you'll eat the gears up. You may be able to use any of the 80's 302 d-stribs that had carb off of any car our truck just change the gear. If you can get the gear off of the 5.0 efi d-strib that should work {double check that} with the carb d-stribs. Are just by a new one for a 85 mustang that had the 5 speed and carb.
