Default t56 swap?

well i have a feeling my aode is on its way out already. so i'm toying with the idea of a t56 swap. now before you lecture me i know the 6 speed isn't good for drag and i should go with a tko or keep it auto. but this is a street car, and i like having fun with it, so i'm doing a manual swap, and i'd like it to be a 6 speed.

so what all would i need to convert from aode to a t56. obviously the trans, twin disc clutch(but would the ones from a termy bolt up to a 5.0 flywheel?) and also what else...clutch cable, clutch/brake pedal assembly, and a computer from a 5speed i'm guessing. anything else?

Belhousing. 26 spline input shaft. And ya, I'd recommend getting a centerforce df clutch; if you don't get it from the start you'll eventually wish you had.

Eventually I plan on swapping out my tko500 for a t56. Great gear ratio's IMO, shifts a lot smoother/quicker and quite frankly is just plan fun.

thats exactly my point, i don't want a notchy trans. i plan on spending atleast a grand on just the clutch. i want to make sure it'll hold up. do you know how much power a t56 straight from a termy can handle? obviously it'll handle what i have now. just curious.

also where are some good companies that i can look at that sell bellhousings and other things i'd need for the swap.

Not sure about the ones from a termi. but I know the viper spec t56's that you'd buy from tremec are rated at 450. Quicktime makes a good bellhousing IMO.

although the rating is low all the tremecs are the same.. the rating is super low compared to what they can actually handle. If you go on the website they state the 500 and 600 have been known to handle a thousand +hp. I wouldn't let it bother me, I'd still get the t56. Got a buddy of mine down here that has a 351 procharged '88 GT and after 8 years he finally just broke his tremec 3550 rated at only 350hp. His car's been chasis dyno'd at 440 rwhp. Anyhow, just my opinion..

Why don't you think the T56 would be good for drag? I think it would be better just based on the gear ratios.

thats only the Viper spec ones, and they are $$$. Most of the ones for Mustangs are .62 6th.

Well I think that would have to depend on everyone's individual application but I certainly have to agree. IMO the gearing is superb. You have a high first which is great for the turbo, s/c, nitrous or high hp guys then a low 2nd and 3rd for a good 60' and 1/8th mile, then the regular 1.0 fourth gear but instead of bogging down you just have an extra .80 fifth to keep speeding like a raped ape and a high 6th for cruising around. Great set up IMO.

1st 2.97
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.43
4th 1.00
5th 0.8
6th 0.62
Reverse 3.28
