Default just FYI increase having hot start issues

incase you've been trying to fix hot start problems for a while. i just fixed my hot start issues for good. the backside of my starter wire was rubbed open down to the wire's windings. since it was rubbed on the open on the backside i couldnt see it the first time i gave it a visual inspection. after so long of this hot start issue i decided to give it another look over. there was power steering fluid, grime, oil and waterever else that got inside the wire's windings. so when it got hot there was entirely too much resistance/grounding. i replaced the starter wire with some high quality audio wire 4gauge and it spins that sucker so fast and really gets the motor started in a hurry. here is what it looks like after i cleaned it up a little bit

and shaddap bout the title. i know i F'd it up. i was posting from my ipod touch. if a mod cares to change it to "just FYI incase having hot start issues"

not really sure how it the outer part got rubbed away, it was the section of wire at the front of the motor between the two hangers under the H balancer. i also added a larger engine ground (0/1 awg) and removed the sway bar completely too, it was just unbolted previously. car torques so much harder now and like 30lbs of weight off the front.

since the two wire replacements the volt drop is a lot less when accessories are turned on but it will still drop 1/2-1 full volt when lights are on, or a/c is turned on, but usually recovers. if all accessories are on(radio, lights, air, electric fan) it will run at solid 12v where if everything is off other than the e fan and lights it will run at 13.5v.

that is at idle but if im driving at 2000rpms on the highway lets say and i turn on the air...you can still watch it drop nearly 1v with lights on and e fan on. seems a little severe to me.

ya it does to me too. the reason i ask is the battery should be putting out about 12.8 volts (6 cells 2.2V per cell)so theres a good chance that you may run into discharge problems

with all accessories on it runs right at 12ish, sometimes slightly above, sometimes slightly below. battery is brand new, alt is 3g swap, starter new, icm new, wiring is all new(battery to starter and battery to ground is 1awg. alt to starter solonoid 4awg, engine ground 0/1awg, alt to ground 4awg, starter wire 4awg). how do i check for discharge?

to check for discharge youd have to check the output of the alt, and the draw on the battery. if you get into the 11.9-.8V area thats when it will discharge as the alt. is suppoosed to put out excess voltage or it will not charge the battery. and my math in my last post was absultely pathetic my bad. the number should have been 13.6V and i believe the alt put out around 13.8 iirc thats without the accessories consumption taken into account. as long as voltage is not constantly under 12V i woulndt worry

hmm.... if i take the alt in and get it test will that tell me if there is discharge or not? or do i just take my volt meter and test my power wire of the alt and see what its putting out without any accessories on and again with accessories on??
