Default Oil level question?

ok so a while back i had bought shorty headers for my car, they were sitting in the box for 2 months and one weekend when i went on a vacation my dad took the car to a shop to have them put on thinking i was never gonna get it done. Needless to say this is the reason why i dont like anyone TOUCHING my car, because when i came home and opened the hood the oil dipstick tube was missing. Called the shop that did it and they fed exed it to me. Of course when i receive it it was now seperated from the bracket that bolts to the header. I tack welded the holes from the rivets shut, and lightly welded the tube back to the bracket at a friends house. I then put it back on the car. Heres the question when i put it back on i checked my oil to see if any maybe blew out the hole, i noticed i was 1/2qt low. didnt touch it just left it be. whenever i preceded to check it, it was always 1/2 low. Now today after changing my oil i noticed that after the dipstick again said 1/2qt low. OK so then i went and filled the left over container with the old oil, little shy of 5qts, but the with the filter still having some oil left in the media i figured ok so theres the rest of it. So now im baffled, i jacked the car back up and checked the dipstick tube, pressed in nice and tight in the block, not moving at all. Could it be that its not "Pushed in all the way" therefore not all of the dipstick is in? after welding it up and re-installing the handle is not in the same position as before a little off, when i went under the car it does seem that it is out a little bit so that it can swing around the new headers. I might have answered my own question but just wanna see if maybe anyone has had this experience before. As much as i love my baby, i dont wanna see anyting happen to her lol.

make sure the dipstick seats on top of the tube , often times it requires a little firm push down
