Default Idle problem

Well I have had this problem for a while now and am pretty sure that the idle mixture circuit on my carb is messed up somehow but wanted to see if you guys agree.

It started when my friend came over to help me do a tune up on my car. Well we replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, coil, and changed fluids. Then we set my timing and took it for a ride. It ran way smoother and seemed to pull just a little bit harder (it could just be in my head). We got back to my house and my friend said it was running a little rich. So he went ahead and started messing with the idle mixture screws. I got in the car and was watching the tach so we could set a good idle. Well he turned the screws in all the way, but they just kept turning and he turned them in all the way. The head off the screws seated with the base of the carb. and he destroyed the springs that go around the screws in the process. So, I am assuming something got damaged there. We took the screws out and I ordered new screws and springs and installed them. But still no luck. I also took the carb off and sprayed carb cleaner in it, and blew throw it with an air compressor but still no luck. Right now the car will run if I turn the idle screw way in, If I try to run on the idle circuit I cant get it to idle. Also when driving the rpm's like to stay really high now and very very slowly will come back down to around 2k. Im assuming it is the carb, I wish I knew someone local that had a carb that I could slap on and try but I don't. So if you guys can think of anything for me to try it would be awesome. I will probably end up taking it to a shop soon.

PROBABLY something is still stuck in it, idle bleed screws should be set with a vaccum gauge for accuracy

Thanks again for the help. and yeah I did hook up a vacuum gauge, I got a reading between 5 and 10. It bounced around alot. Adjusting the screws didn't effect the vacuum at all though. I can seat the screws all the way in and the engine will continue running. So I know im not running on the idle circuit. Whatever is stuck in there is stuck really well. lol

^^^^^if the vaccum gauge bounces around alot there may be another issue, here is a guide for engine vaccum conditions, 5-10 is low for a car if it has a stock cam
