Default Blow Smoke

What does it mean to blow smoke in the engine to locate an undetectable miss, they say by doing this it is sure that they will find this miss. Help me to understand.

you could detect a spark jump with something like that, or just do it at night instead. if the spark is jumping out of the wire, and not going through the plug into the combustion chamber, youll be able to see it go to the shortest path to ground. electricity is lazy. it takes the path of least resistance. so, if that means, it jumps from the plug wire to a bracket, on say the #5 wire, youll have a miss in cylinder 5. thats what im thinking they meant....

Could just spray a mist of water onto the wires to look for arching.

yeah, that too. i mean, that was the only thing i could think of why somebody would tell him to use a smoke/fog machine to find a miss. water is definitely the easiest way

its for vacuum leaks. You could also run a wiggle test. They sometimes find vacuum leaks.
