Default Headlight switch replacement

So I got my new headlight switch and tried to remove the old one,,,

Does the dash trim piece that it mounts in have to be removed? or can it be replaced from the outside? You know pull the switch out and unplug the old and plug in the new?

The switch comes out from the front on mine. There are a couple of small tabs that have to be depressed and it pops out.

Does this change from year to year? I'm still waiting for my service manual,,, been 3 weeks,,, they say 2 more weeks,,, its coming from "Books 4 Cars".

I got the original owners manual in 1 week for $40.

It should look like this from the side. See the circled areas? You need to put a thin blabed screwdriver in there and press those tabs in. You can do one at a time starting from the top. You push a screwdriver in there and press the tab in (see pic #2). While doing this you pull outward on the switch at the top (see pic #3) keeping pressure on it until you pop the bottom on. I couldn't have 2 hands on the switch and take the pictires so I had to do it this way. Keeping slight pressure on it will hold the top one out so you can depress the lower one and release that side of the switch. Picture #3 also shos you how it looks after you release both of them. The other side is still locked in. You need put the screrwdriver either on the side or the bottom, depending on what works, and slightly pry while still pulling on the outside with your right hand. (see pic #4 & #5). It should pop out. The wires should stretch out far enough to unplug it plug in the new one. Then snap it back in by starting with the inside of the switch and rock it to the outside and you will hear it snap in. Good Luck
