question about oil pump and pressure
hey guys,i have a 90 gt that is stock and recently i notice my oil pan gasket is starting to slip out so i have to tackle that soon.i noticed at idle my oil pressure is low but when i give it gas it looks good.it is still within normal range on the guage but was just curious.also since i have to remove the oil pump to pull the pan i figured i might as well go ahead and replace it since im there.would it be an issue if i got the ford racing high volume oil pump even though my engine is stock?i always liked replaceing parts with better components whenever possible.

an hv pump is a waste in your case, you need to perform a mech test, low pressure can be a result of a few things such as excessive bearing clearances, if such is the case a new pump won't cure the prob

If you have slightly worn bearings an HV pump will help bring the pressure up a bit at lower rpm, but it won't be fixing your problem. Find out what the actual problem is and fix it. Do you actually know what your pressure is now, or are you just looking at the stock gauge?

i am looking at the stock guage.the car doesnt run bad or anything i was just curious since im about to drop the pan the replace the gasket so i figured i would go ahead and put a oil pump in since im down there.

Just an update.I found a faulty oil pressure sending unit.so I guess in the end there is no oil pressure problem.so now for my ticking noise it sounds like a lifter so I'm about to replace all my lifers and pushrods.since my lower intake I starting to leak it works out.
