Default Re-Tread Cheater Slicks

So I was listening today to someone go on about their car back in the day when economy gas was ran in airplanes. At one point in the all the stories I heard he mentioned Cheater slicks for ten bucks than had been re-tread. He talked like they were so cheap, people didn't mind going through them every 2 or 3 weeks back then.

Anyone know where to get these? Preferable somewhere I could drive to if close to NW Alabama. I really don't want to go with the expensive z-rated tires then wear them out before the next oil change.

thanks

Gotta find a place that will retread a tire first, which is basically glueing tread on a bald tire.

Then you have to find one willing to put cheater slick tread on them. (cheater slick = slicks with tiny lines of tread)

Why do you want to drag race in Z rated tires, anyway. Z rated is more aimed towards high speed. Z rated don't wear out that quickly... I've got about 1200 miles on my brand new Sumitomo Z rated tires with no signs of wear. Still has the rubber whiskers on the outside of the tires.

the car had new tires on the front when I got it. Its not I want to drag race, I would just like to be able to get some traction. Thr car spins way to much.

Bad idea all around. I would never trust a re-tread. Also you have to remember that these old timers that tell these kids of stories are usually full of BS.

Here is a pic of the car when I bought it to show what I am working with...I do want to keep the wheels...It may just be the tires on the back are hard from being so slick...I would like to be able to punch it in third gear and not be all over the road

click to enlarge, I haven't been able to find out how to re-size yet

You don't need slicks to be able to plant power on the street. Good street tires and suspension are what you lack.

You don't fix a broken leg(suspension/good street tires) with a band aid(slicks).

I have top quality suspension, set up right and good tires and I still get loose in third gear. When you start putting down decent power there will come a point where you just NEED a sticky tire, not always a "race" tire, but at least a Nitto drag radial or in my case a stick road course tire.
BTW some clues that you are talking to a dumbass who has not been in the car hobby for 40 years are the following:
Anyone who says "3/4 race cam" or "I used to run AV gas". or I had "cheater slicks" or " I used to pull the tires on the street". I will add more as I think of them.
