Default Water Pump

I have a slight coolant leak in my car and was told that it was the water pump. I have never messed with a water pump and was wondering if this is an easy fix? Should I do it my self or take it to a costly mechanic?

Make sure you hit all the bolts that go into the timing cover with a hammer first. Otherwise you will most likely break them off. I use a 3/8s impact to get them out.

You also need black silicone on both sides of the gasket.

yes, be ready for what to do if one of the bolts breaks off. a right angle drill and a helicoil set is what i needed.

I see. Anyone know of a website or anything that I could get a step by step process? I figure that might help. I know I could take this to my mehanic, but even he tells me sometimes, "Dude, you know you could do this yourself and save some money." LOL.
I just dont always have the time......

if you are going to be doing a lot of work to it, this would be a good time to pick up a book for it at the parts store.

Your gonna need a few things from there anyway.

Don't you also have a window issue....lol

The water pump isn't that bad to do,like others have posted it's just time consuming.

If you crack the bolts by hand you'll be less likely to break them. When you change the water pump most of them come with two different gaskets to use, make sure you LINE UP THE CORRECT ONE, or you'll get the whole thing together and it'll be like Niagara falls. I know a guy that did this once.

Also I strongly recommend that while you're in there replace the timing chain if it's a higher mileage car and if it hasn't been done yet. You'll thank yourself later they're not that much money.

Here's a link to the pump and also a timing chain set on our site. if you need help post we'll walk yah through it.

, the timing cover does not come off to do a water pump nor does it have to, while I understand your reasoning, I wouldn't open up that can of worms, unless need be
