I'd lean more toward people holding a grudge, before jealousy. Most jealous people would try to steal it before messing it up; at least that's what I think.

yeah only one in my community a few weeks ago.....someone didn't like me but I have a good idea who it was....lol

around here thats common,so a few people i know have cemented in there mailbox,and replaced the wood pole with a metal pipe. just a little surprise for the next person to come driving buy with a bat....
