Default Engine hoist wont reach! help!!

I purchased a one ton engine hoist from harbor freight today. When I positioned the hoist in front of my stang, the arm is about 12" too short! the arm only reaches to about the front of the engine. Is it possible to remove the engine using the hoist on the side? or is there another alternative?

Do the legs or the arm adjust to different lengths? They should.

you can do the side if you want

its doesnt have to reach in the center, just remove the radiator and use a longer chain, youll be ok,

when it goes back in, you'll be fine as well

mjr46, thanks for the sarcasm. The car is on jackstands and I rolled the hoist in as far as I could but the engine hoist jack bumps up to the bumper. I extended the arm as far out as it could and only reached to about the front of the engine. and at that extent, the hoist can only handle 1/4 ton. Im assuming the engine with heads is about that weight right?

Just remove the hood with a friend and take it out from the side.

get it from the side then, there is more than one way to skin a cat., I've done it both ways, if you have to create extra work such as removing bumpers and so forth then your not thinking hard enough......show us a pic of what your working with to better illustrate the issue at hand......I'm sure there is an easier solution
