I replaced almost all the gaskets when i swapped to a basically stock 89 block. Forgot about the rear main somehow, big mistake... other than that it ran fine, not sure on the mileage or anything of it... but i gave it hell. I even drove from kansas to tennessee to texas and stayed in houston for over 2 weeks and drove it back home with no major issues.

Tune up ftw!

^If you swapped blocks then I'd think you replaced gaskets

He means he left the rear main seal in there.

Well its like this if it isnt leaking dont make it leak! if you change gaskets like vlv covers get the good ones spend some money now and save some time down the road (blue permetex gaskets) and as for the tune up yeah your normal plugs, wires and fuel filter, and maybe some fuel treatment will do wonders on it! If the rear seal isnt leaking no need to drop the tranny and remove a flywheel or flexplate just to look, if it leaks you`ll see engine oil dripping from the bellhousing!
