I am having problems with starting my fox latley. It is cold here in indiana which isnt helping much but it shouldnt be this bad. Ok when the car does start and i drive a short distance then shut it off and leave it for a few min then come back and then try to start it again it turns over very slowly and most of time wont start at all but will turn over but not click. I reciently did a 3G alt install and thought it might be a charging problem but even when under an extreme load it only drops to around 13.8 volts at idle. I also just installed a new ground cable and new battery terminals and didnt make a difference. When it does not start but tries very slowly the starter soleniod tends to get really hot and smokes a little. I am really lost on this one. Possibly the starter? I do know the battery is good as i tested it and it has over 600 ccas. Any input would be great. Also when i cannot get it started i can do the old roll and pop the clutch trick and it starts right up. If you shut the car off right after that and try it again it will start just fine. I know its alot of info but i am trying to give the best description of what is happening.

sounds like you have high resistence in a connection, most likely in the cable down to the starter or where it smokes, or a bad starter with high resistance in the windings causing the excessive currrent draw, hence the smoking
