Smile $495 to install gears?? WTF?? -PART II

I know there was a pretty heated debate about what's fair price to install gears...I was quoted $495 in just LABOR to install a set of FMS 3.55 gears just about 2 weeks ago...

Well, after some asking around I found that my top Tool/Die Maker at the shop I work at (who runs alky dragster) said if I brought him the axle he would do it for $200 labor and stand behind his work.

Of course I took him up for the job......he did a great f**king job! No gear whine, no complaints....

it's easy for people who do work on the side to quote lowball prices, they have no overhead to account for............/thread

I understand that, but the last thread had a few bitching like little girls to justify their prices. I've work in a union shop for many, many years...I've been a Toolroom Supervisor/ Senior Design Engineer for over 18 years now. I'm sick of hearing the pissing & moaning. If you know hat your doing...fine otherwise STFU.

If a shop owner ever carried on about shop cost with me face-to-face like some of the last post guys, I would have packed up my stuff and left....I have no time for a$$holes. The world is full of bitchers and whinners..... doesn't mean I have to put up with their attitudes.
