Rearend input
I found a 4 lug fox rearend thats (to me) complete. It has South Side Machine lift bars, sway bar, and motorsport 4:30 gears. The guys asking $185 for it. Its been for sale for about a week and a half. I think the lower controls arms them selves are worth it, they look very lightly used. I'm thinking about picking it up mainly for another rearend to play with and control arms. Do you guys think the 4:30's are too steep of a gear in a moderately modded 306 stang thats just a weekind car? Right now it has 3:89's and it handles them well, not too much shifting for in town for my preferences. Mainly just cruise around town and maybe 30-40 highway miles per sunny weekend. My questions are; Too steep of gear even for the car mentioned above? Is the rear a good deal? What should I offer for it? Any kinda imput would be nice.
This doesn't tell us much but since you didn't mention anything else. I'm assuming the engine is stock with external bolt ons. If so, then yes. 4.30's is way too deep for a stock engine. You'll probably need to through 5th in the quarter.
In town, ya 1st is useless. I have 3.73's and a 26" tires and rarely even use 1st in town. Take off in 2nd often.
South side bars have a solid bushing on each end. The problem with solid bushings is they do not allow the rear axle to articulate.
