Default Cam question?

so my engine is pretty much stock except for a cold air and throttle body. the car came with a cam in it, i am pretty sure it is a b cam. with the stock heads and intake it runs like crap... i am considering installing a stock cam for the time being so it at least runs decent. i want to get a set of heads and get a custom cam but will not have the money for at least a few months. i also have a explorer intake i will install with the heads and cam. what do you guys think? i just want it to run solid and be fun to drive. the rest of my set up is a rearend all new with 373's and a detroit truetrac stock t-5 and a stock clutch. my exhaust for now is stock headers with 2.5 with an h pipe and 2 chamber flows. when i get the heads and cam i will get headers to. so am i stupid to put the stock stick back in for the next few months? thanks mike

I've just finished installing a Lunati,272/282duration and 506 lift w/1.7rr, cam in my 87 GT.But due to funds I did it the hard way by that I mean 2years ago I installed gt 40 heads and PP intake .Last year I took the heads back off and had the exhaust ported and new valve spring package and put back together.Ive debated for years about changing cam due to I wasn't sure if it would idle and really didn't want to change to mass air. After contacting Lunati they told me the cam I selected would work .So far so good as the car idles great .Installing the cam was't as bad .What i'm getting to is you say you car runs like crap .Do you mean the idle or no performance .FWIW I would leave the cam in as the B cam is a good cam and wouk on the changing heads and intake . What i've found out and i'm pretty sure most other 5.0 mustang owners is the key to getting one of these cars to really go is it has to be able to breath.Check to make sure timing is right and spout is disconnected before setting timing.

i think i am going to do that leave it for now until i can get the cam i really want which is a custom grind. i just bought a set of performer heads with rr's and headers also i already have a explorer intake in my basement the combo should run better i just think it want to breath bc of the cam and cannot bc of stock components.
