Question Rough Idle

Hey Guys... I have a 89 Hatchback 5.0, Trick Flow intake & throttle body, BBK MA and cold air, 24lb injectors, E303 cam, Under drives, MSD wires, cap and coil, Factory AOD, and 355 pos rear end. My problem is that if I get the idle set so you can hear the cam and its not idling too high when I pull it in gear, it dies. If I set the idling up so it doesn't die then its way too high and it shifts into gear too hard. Any ideas? I have only had the car a few weeks and have fixed 9 vacuum leaks and changed the idle air control valve, dist, cap, and wires. I'm dying to get the car to Bristol to see what she runs but need the "bugs" worked out first. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i'm assuming your maf is matched to your injectors, but still 24's are too big for your set up.your idle should be around 900 rpm.leave it there and find out what is the problem.but i would start with your maf. clean it and check for what size injectors it is for.allso make sure you have the vacuum line to the fuel regulater.it sounds like to me your getting to much fuel,or you still have vacuum issues.i thought my car was running good till i had a proffesional tune done and it gave me 100 horse.if it is all together pay some one to tune it,you won't be sorry.

The MAF is a 70mm and was told it required 24lb injectors. Im certain I got all of the vacuum leaks took care of. It smells like its running to heavy on fuel. What size injectors do you think I should be running and the next reply down suggests a stall. Think that would help. I was planning on a 2800 anyways. Thanks for the help.

if you installed a bigger cam and you have a automatic trans, it all but requires it, thats the reason it won't idle unless you run the rpms up high, then when you put it in D it idles normal.

i have an ecam and stock stall.i allso have 1.72 rr's.before my tune it had a real lopey idle.if you have a 70mm maf that is probably cobra maf.it is not compatable with your stock computer.check to see if it is a ford maf.it could allso be a sn95 if it has a bolted on flange vs a straight tube.if it does it is for 19 lb inj.either way a tune will be needed.a higher stall will absorb the lope of a cam at idle, say a stop light.but an e cam is very mild for that to become an issue.i have a shift kit in mine and it is still normal on take off but hard shifts.you should have 19 lb injectors or diffrent heads.i was dyno'd over 312 whp and still was running a bit rich till the tune with 19's.it sure sounds to me you have something not right with your motor,or fuel set up. we have very similar set up.i thought i had mine dialed in but the tuner sure made sure it really was correct.the computer and timing is key provided you have the right parts.either way if you can't hold a 900 rpm idle it is telling you something.good luck

just make sure your maf matches your injectors and tune tune tune!!! i don't want to lead you in the wrong direction.i would find someone with the proper programs like tweecer and see what is going on before you start buying stuff.the 93 cobra ran 24's with a little better heads but it was tuned for it.
