Default Help checking pushrod length

So I am using an adjustable push rod length checker. Trickflow says I need a 6.75 rod. So I set it at that and tried it and it was a tad low. So I tried shortening the rod by .2 to 6.55 and it stayed in the same location?! Is this the lifter allowing the rod to sink more or did I just simply not adjust it far enough?

Also my main question is, When I shorten the push rod should the mark move up or down on the valve stem?

I shouldnt be having trouble with this as it seem pretty straight forward so I apologize.

are you using a converted stock lifter or a solid lifter to perform the check?? if not all a stock lifter will do is collapse under the spring pressure and leave a false witness mark after rotating engine over.

Ahhhhh, ok that mkaes sense. Thats what I was thinking because whenever I would tighten the rocker 1/2 turn past 0 lash I would feel it give a little. Makes total sense. So I can convert the hydro lifter to be a solid for the purpose of the check?

^^yup, take the internals out, flip the plunger and I install a few small washers until I'm just able to get the retaining clip back in

Thanks for the help! but..... I still have a problem. I got the lifter to stay solid and then checked push rod length. I got the line to go right in the middle of the valve stem, but the rocker arm is hitting the stud. Not much just a tiny spot were the blue is rubbed off of the rocker and I can see metal but its still rubbing. Did I do something wrong or is it just my parts combo?

did these heads originally come stud mount or did someone use a conversion kit?? if they were originally pedastal mount heads you'll need some milling on the stud bosses as Protrick states

I bought them new and they are stud mounts. Used the studs that came in the box with the heads from trickflow. Is it possible to run a thinner guideplate? Because that would give me some more clearance
