Default wanted 85-86 GT ?

Hi all I am interested in purchasing a 85 or 86 Mustang GT convertible 5 speed. I do like both these style years. I have done some research already and notice the 85 is carb and the 86 is FI. I know the 86 had another 25HP but I am probably resticted because of the FI. I am 47 and just want a cruiser. 2nd question how hard will it be to find one that is unmolested? any sites? thank you

^^^^ agreed.. but it will be almost impossible to find a mustang that's over 25 years old unmolested and if you do it'll cost a pretty penny. If I had my choice I would go with the 85.. Had a buddy who had one, while we were in college and man that thing was sweet...

first of all, wrong section for such a thread!!..please read this for section content posting rules:
https://mustangforums.com/forum/5-0l...bers-read.html thank you

and second the 86 did not have 25 more hp than the 85 carbed model it had 10 hp less due to restrictive heads, 210 bhp for 85 carbed model vs 200 bhp for 86 fi model

85s were carb if it had a 5spd behind it, autos in 85 were in fact TBI(84s also) !!!! 85 would be the only one of the two i would own (and only if 5spd) here's why, last year carb,, first year roller cam, there's my two bits!!

i like both years , prefer the '85, but my 2 cents is to NOT get the automatic.

absolutely not the '85 auto if anything , it was cfi and only had 165 hp, plus being crap geared in a crap trans in a heavy car (a vert will weigh about 3600 lbs with driver and 1/2 tank) it will suk a$$

'86 heads sucked thats where the hp was lost

and yeah... gonna be hard to find at this stage of the game, but some minor mods can be swapped out, and possibly a full resto back to stock might be the way to go
