Default Any powergains without A/C and smog pump?

Yes, as the headline says. Is there a point to deleting the a/c and smog pump as far as hp goes? My a/c compressor is shot so I'm going to replace it with a dummy pulley and thought I'd might as well replace the smog pump at the same time.

I don't believe there is much gained on the A/C side since there isn't any parasitic drag on the engine when the air is off and the clutch is freewheeling. The smog pump on the other hand is good for a few free h.p. but I don't remember how many...been a long time now since I modded my 5.0.
I would suggest a dummy pulley for the smog pump, then remove the compressor (use a shorter non-a/c car drive belt). Then for added weight savings and the related performance increase remove the rest of the a/c components (condensor, lines, etc). Add underdrive pulleys to the set up to maximize your gains. Here is a complete kit.

No prob, I'm sure you'll get some others from guys running this set up. From what I saw in the catalog descriptions it looks like you will need a dummy pulley to replace the a/c on the 94-95 5.0, where the earlier Fox bodies you can just move up the p/s pump to the a/c mount.

You can bypass/remove one or both of those by running a different belt on sn95's

yes there is parasitic losses with the a/c pump there versus not. the more mass you have the move the worse. you are correct that you gain moer when the a/c is off versus on, but wrong about the fact of it being there.

yes there are gains to be had by losing power steering and a/c. really noticeable?....mmmm...maybe quicker acceleration but its not a total kick in the pants for a gain.
