Default IS MY CAR TO HIGH IN TIME?

My 87 gt mustang that is a 5-speed car with 4.10 gears under it. Ive noticed when going up a good size hill in 5th gear the valves chatter sum. Also when im getting in to at higher rpms it has a chattering noise sum times. Could this be do to car being to high in time? If so what do you suggest the timing to be set at? Thanks in advanced!

You are running premium fuel? If yes, Remove spout and back timing down 2* see what you got. Matter of trial error to find right spot. Detonation is hazardous to the engine, adjust timing to get it gone.

yeah if it's pinging under load i'd say yes. but you must be waaay high, cuz 4.10's are forgiving due to the torque. and i spray with 14* and 92 octane at times

could also very well be that you have an exhaust leak at your headers. When it leaks, it makes a very similar sound almost like a valve tick that increases/decreases with rpm. But its nothing you can feel obviously its only audible.

Your car doesnt need 93.. even with advanced timing.

Run 87 or 89, set your timing around 12° advanced, check your oil level, and make sure you dont have any exhaust leaks.

93 octane is a waste in your car.

never by ear..... get a light or borow one from the local parts store.

make sure you do it correctly, the SPOUT needs to be popped out b4 you adjust it...then put back in after.

b4 you start it up your gonna need to clean up the balancer marks with sanpaper then wipe it off and fill the lines in with white chalk or white crayon. then wipe off the excess so the lines and numbers are bright white. you want the scale that goes from 0-20 NOT 10-0

i'd set it at 12*
