new to the 5.0. questions.
alright, so instead of a new threat for all my questions. ill just get it all out here.
i just picked up a 93 GT. im a mustang FREAK but ive never actually owned or worked on a 5.0. im hearing all this stuff about the explorer gt40 heads. so question 1 is: what is the differance of the explorer 5.0 and the GT? would i be better off spending the money and getting new....lets say... trickflow heads and intake? or trickflow intake with gt40 heads? and how big can i go with a cam on mostly stock 5.0 with gt40 heads and trickflow intake? i keep hearing alot of negatives about a.b.c. cams. why dont people like them? any recommendations on cams?
question 2. how do i go about 5 lug conversion and rear disk?

explorer motors are gt40 based... not gt40... gt40 based
the heads have smaller valves than gt40, the intake has smaller exhaust and intake ports than gt40, the explorer is sometimes referred to as gt40p, and the "p" heads require modified headers to clear the plugs
i am a big fan of gt40 stuff, i have a gt40 tubular on my car with edelbrock heads and nitrous. mildly ported
"better off" is relative. you can make almost anything outperform something else... just depends how much you wanna spend.
yes, aluminum heads from trickflow, afr, edelbrock will outperform the gt40 irons, but that doesnt mean you cant go fast on the gt40's
for $600 you can have iron heads that will perform like those aluminum heads out of the box... and that cost u $1200
intakes are pretty comparable imo, most good ones are about $500 and all about the same to me
the biggest reason i hear smack talk about the alphabet cams is "they are old technology" but honestly... so is the pushrod motor so to each his own.
check out the trickflow stage 1 cam, nice cam for like $189 it's a split duration cam too
for 5 lug AND disc ??? find a complete axle already done. it'll save you a boatload in the longrun since it will have upgraded 5 lug axles, and usually a 3.73 or 4.10 gear. go for the 4.10 btw
those are my opinions... and fyi my buddy went 11.60-11.80 in a '92 gt 5 speed with a box stock gt40 tubular and iron gt40 with a super mild port job. 125 shot and drove it like he!!, still the stock cam

the gt40 heads/intakes are good for what you're going to pay for them. it all depends on what your goals are for whether or not you'd be better off with a more expensive head. like bob said the letter cams are just kinda old, they're not necessarily bad but now there's much better ones out there, like comps new lineup is saposed to be the bees knees of ots cams.
