Does anyone have any of these turbo kits from On 3 performance? If so, tell me how it is for you.
I do for my 91 LX and loved it. The kit looked good, fit just right and the company's customer service was great. I would recommend to anyone looking to go F/I, and in fact ill be putting their kit on my next 5.0 as well since some drunk a$$ hole decided it was a good idea to take out my parked car. Go visit corral.net for all the information you need but if you have any install questions or just questions about the kit feel free to PM me as I'll be happy to help you out.
which options would you suggest one get with the kit ordered from them?
Well I opted for the turbo that came with the kit and although its a no namer I had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever and haven't heard of anyone having problems with the cheap turbo. I also ordered all supporting mods from On3 to include Walbro 255lph fuel pump,42# injectors, Pmas maf, and even a oil relocation kit from them so all I needed was a tune and had absolutely no problems with anything. I put about 2000 miles on the kit and the only problem I had was blowing a head gasket. Not only was the kit and supporting mods problem free, the customer service was top-notch and Mike was always there to help with all of my questions.
So I would say no need to upgrade the kit as long as your goal is under 650-700 hp as that is the limit of the cheap turbo and the supplied intercooler iirc.
I honestly don't know if they offer upgraded wastegates or BOV because the ones that do come with the kit are also knock-offs but I have had zero issues with either or those two. And the majority of the problems I read about are usually installation error causing either the wastegate or BOV to not function properly. I also haven't really heard of anyone having problems with the supplied WG or BOV, besides the ones involving user error, but I do hear alot of people upgrading to Tial and other trusted name-brand ones just for peice of mind.
I was running the stock spring in the wastegate, so about ~8psi, but don't have either dyno numbers or track times and speeds just because I was waiting for the fall to take her to the track but like I said someone thought it was a good idea to drink and drive and smash into both my '91 and '06 GC. I also never got it tuned because two weeks before it was supposed to get in the shop the head gasket decided to crap the bed and I figured since I was just going to do some work over winter I would chance it and wait till spring to get her tuned.
