smoke
I have a 92 mustang gt stock 302 block with gt40p heads and cobra intake... etc. I recently rebuilt the motor with my father in law(a reputable mechanic). it was a stock rebuild: heads magnafluxed surfaced and valve job. Block was cleaned and honed. I had the machine shop order all parts so they ordered chrome alloy rings. Its been about 3000 miles since the rebuild. initially it would smoke from oil burn which was obvious from the smell of the smoke, but now when the car is warm it puts out what looks to me like excess exhaust. the smell of the smoke is that of typical exhaust. I've been through this car a million times by now ensuring that all vacuum lines are sealed and that everything is correct. The only vacuum line that is blocked is the one for the fuel pressure regulator. Is it possible that this is causing me to burn excess exhaust? any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!!
It was eating oil recently but it was obvious when it was oil burning because of the smell and it would always smoke on startup when it was doing that never while it had been running for a while. that is not to say it is still not eating a little bit of oil, but if this were strictly oil i would be completely empty by now. by excess exhaust i mean the smoke comes out like regular exhaust and dissipates much quicker than it did when it was burning oil. checked codes after rebuild and everything came back normal except for an air sensor that wasn't plugged in which fixed it. I haven't had to codes checked since it started last night. I'm going to check all my vacuum lines and hook up fpr vacuum and if that doesn't help I will get codes checked again. I definately know it is not burning coolant btw, levels are normal and I don't smell it at all
