I found this odd
Since I got the 91 the car seemed to run "hot" for the first cycle of the tstat. I thought it was just the gauge, but I figured I'd change the tstat out. I change it out and find all kinds of rust debris in the housing.
If you look in the radiator the same thing is going on in there. The thing that got me is that when I checked it when I got it, it was green and rust free. Now it appears as water and rusty.
I flushed it all out with the water hose and put in some fresh coolant. I'm guessing that the rust did something with the tstat or it was just bad, because now it doesn't do the "hot" cycle. It stays dead center of the normal in the temp gauge. Before it would go to the one above it and then come down.
Now, all is well. The guy I got it from said it had a new motor in it, so I guess he could have just thrown 90/10 of water/coolant mixture in there, and I've had it running long enough to get some corrosion. We are pretty far south. Just thought I'd share.
