Default ticking sound from a pulley!!!!!

I have a 89 mustang GT and there is a ticking noise coming from one of the lower pulleys, it sound like its in the motor but if i remove the belt the noise is gone. i have smog delete and a/c delete and i know its not coming from the alternator. to me it sounds like its coming from the harmonic balancer but i have never heard one make a noise like this. there are no vibrations in the motor at all. i looked around and couldn't find a thread with the same problem any help would be appreciated. thanks

look at your belt. see if there is a little piece coming off of it .... see if the rythym of the tick coincides with the speed of the belt

i swapped the belts and that wasnt the problem, it sounds like its coming from the harmonic balancer or water pump, it speeds up with the engine but if i take the belt of it goes away. it kinda sounds like a rod knocking but again if the belt isnt on then it doesnt do it.

take something to listen to pump while the car runs or check by hand for bad bearings.

yeah taking off the belt just means it isnt the crank or balancer.

thats what drives everything else. my guess is water pump or alt at this point.

just a guess, but I'd say water pump. alternator bearings usually whine when they go bad...but every water pump I had die knocked.
