95 mustang alt. wire too battery gets hot and smokes
ok its my girls car, the wires that the neg. battery terminal holds to the battery came out of the terminal. the wires dont look the best but i took the 3wires and clamped them back in the terminal( a fat wire, a medium wire that goes to the coil, and a skinny one that goes to the frame near the battery . the one that goes to the coil is the only one that is cremped in the little housing that makes it simple to go on 1 of the 2 bolts that tighten the wires to the terminal clamp (if that makes sense) the big one and the little one are just frayed end of wires that i wedged under the hold down of the terminal then tightned the 2 bolts to secure it to the terminal clamp, then i just put the terminal clamp onthe battery and tightened the 1 nut to the bold that holds it tight on the battery. I then started the car guage inside was reading in the middle of normal (all good) but wire that goes to the back of alternator was smoking at the alt. and was real hot, all within like 5 min of idling turned headlights on and got hotter faster. whats the prob. A BAD GROUND OR WHAT. its charging the alt. just gets to hot. before the wires came undone from the terminal every thing was good , help please....
