Default oil drain plug/gasket on 85 GT, torque specification for drain plug

I have just started to do my own oil changes and was wondering does anyone know what specifications does the oil drain plug need to be torqued to?

I just noticed that there is the occasional drip of oil coming off the oil drain plug.....and was wondering did I tighten it enough?

Also I have two Mustangs......and I think one requires a drain plug gasket and the other does not. Just want to confirm is it my 85 that needs the gasket and my 05 GT does not??

i’ve never torqued the drain plug. just get it good and snug. To the best of my knowledge, I think they all should have some kind of gasket. I would go to a part store and get a Copper one. You don’t need to go too tight with a copper one.

The plugs usually have that built-in rubber gasket, and some of them need replaced every
time you change the oil. I will use a copper washer if the rubber has flattened out...

ALL oil plugs have a torque, or thread it in by hand, and then simply snug it up with your
socket wrench an 1/8th" turn or so. However, for Mustang GT, it is10 ft-lbs, except 1998,
which is 17 ft-lbs.
