Default 5.0 Rebuild +Head/cam swap on a...

2000 Explorer. I know this is a Mustang forum but I'm not gettin a whole ton of information from the explorerforum.com. So I thought maybe I could get some helpful info on here. I'm planning on doing a basic rebuild on my 2000 Explorer 5.0. Main reason being is I want this truck to last forever since it has sentimental value and it has a rear main seal leak and probably an internal valve seal leak too. It runs great but I figured this will be a good time to do because once my GT is paid off that's where all the budget will go into.
Now I'm not looking to do a huge Stroker with the truck. My goals are it should drive just as good on the street after the build as it did before. That means run with the A/C on, drive on long road trips, haul stuff around, tow a light load if neccessary, go off-road, and drive through heavy snow. I figured even though I'm not worried about makin this truck run with sports cars a stroker wouldn't be feasiable. Now adding an aftermarket cam and possibly swapping heads would make it more aggressive. Any of you 5.0 guys know some recommendations? The guys over at explorer forum said to get a custom grind cam but I can find anyone that'll do it and to go after AFR 165 cyclinder heads. My truck already has the basic bolt-ons Headers, exhaust, intake, and tuned. Eventually will have high flow cats too. Thanks for any help in advanced! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCdbU...el_video_title

The problem is there no known bolt-on Supercharger kits available for 5.0 Explorer/Mountaineers anymore. There used to be an X-Charger kit for it but is now gone. Then you add the price of a rebuild and supercharger on top of it, it's gonna get pricey. Also, I'm not trying to build this thing up to pass Camaros and Mustangs on the strip or street. Just want a good daily driver with a little bit more aggression and power. That's what my goals are for it. Do everything it can now after the rebuild plus a little or some more and have a unique idle. Be reliable as well.

That motor has the gt40p heads and different pistons, from what I hear mainly changing cam and port polish the heads would do everything you want it too, sounds like you allready have some upgrades to it all ready

I had a 97 explorer once. It was a beautiful truck but it had the 4.0 SOHC engine. Whoever designed that engine should be shot. 4th timing chain on the rear of the engine and they used plastic guides. I bet he had a PHd. Well I made the mistake of not researching that engine.

I was thinking about getting another one in the future but with the 5.0. Their good trucks otherwise.

My issue is finding a company that'll build a good custom grind cam for my application.
