the clutch cable is the last thing you put on. If you can't get it in that way get some threaded rod and use them as alignment dowels on the transmissoin so it slides in straight. Make sur eyou are putting the bearing on the fork right also.

There should be no reason to do anything but put the bearing on the fork and then while taking your time slide the trans in a little, check the fork or slide the bearing on the bearing retainer by hand and then keep sliding the trans in more....making sure you have it in straight before you try to push it into the clutch plate and into the pilot bearing..

Is the clutch properly aligned? Tried using a transmission jack or experienced friend?

well i worked on the trans.. i went and got a new throw out bearing and i had the trans about 1/2 inch from meeting the bell housing, so i pulled the trans out a hair to spin the shaft at the tail and the whole thing slid out.. so i thought it would be easy to put it back in and so far nothing... i think the problem is that i am on my back with the front of the car on jack stands so i am pushing to high instaed of at an angle. i wish i had a friend to help.. some one to control the jack... tomorrow i will try again.. thanks for the help and do not laugh at me to much...

well, the trans is in and the car can move, thanks to Bobs transmission... i had the car towed to a shop a mile up the road and had it done.. i got to the point where i could not move my left shoulder so i gave up. in total with the tow it costed me $200... and he had it done in less then 24 hours.. he got the car last night and i got the call at 2 saying it was ready.. thanks for all the help..
