First question I have to ask is did you install a new clutch? If not and all you did was change the trans, then the only thing I can think of was the throwout bearing was knocked off in the installation some how and now laying helplessly on the bottom of your bell housing. If that is true then yes you must take the trans back out, put the throwout bearing back in the right position and install the trans again.

thanks for the help, it was the throw out bearing. how do i put it back on with out taking off the bell housing? i thought if i diconnected the clutch cable, move the arm i slide the throw out bearig behind the arm where it goes, then use a c clamp to squeeze the arm to put back on the cable.. will this work? thanks again!

Did the throwout bearing just come off the fork and still on the transmission or did it fall completely into the bottom of the bellhousing? If it just came off the fork and is still on the trans then yes you can, with alot of PITA work probably, put it back on the fork. You might as well just remove the bolts and slide the trans back, put it on right and slide thr trans back into the bell...

use a prybar on the fork to put the cable back on....not a c clamp

the bearing was sitting at the bottom of the bell housing.. i pulled the trans out and placed the bearing back onto the fork. and like i said i discoonected the cable to place the bearing on the fork... the bearing side rides against the clutch.. correct? there is alot of tesion on the fork... i will try a prybar to connect the cable...

Unload the self adjuster for the clutch. This will give you slack in the cable.
